1Shop at "Taiwan Tax Refund" stores
- Check the mark: Only government-designated stores with the "Taiwan Tax Refund" or "退稅" mark qualify
- Minimum: Spend NT$ 2,000 (tax included) or more per store, per day
- Passport + form: Show passport at checkout and request the tourist refund form. Keep both the receipt and form

2Pick a refund method (3 options)
- ✈️ Airport refund: Most common. Done at airport counter/kiosk on departure. Works for any store's receipt
- 🏙 In-city refund: Get refunded in advance at city desks. 7% credit card deposit held → released after airport verification. Must depart within 20 days
- ⚡ Instant refund (small): Refunded immediately at the store. Limited to NT$ 48,000/store/day and NT$ 120,000 cumulative per visit
⚠️ Important: If you don't depart within 20 days of the in-city refund or skip the airport check, the 7% deposit is charged plus penalties!
3Final step at the airport (departure day)
- Arrive 3 hours before departure: Leave plenty of time for the refund process
- Before checking in luggage, visit the refund counter/kiosk → submit passport, receipts and form
- If the kiosk shows "customs check required", show items to customs before checking the bag (most are exempted)
- Print the "Tax Refund Confirmation" at the kiosk → choose cash (NT$) or card at the refund counter
✅ Cash is the fastest option. Card refunds take 2~4 weeks. Refunds over NT$ 100,000 are card-only!

What is the in-city refund deposit? ▾
When refunding in the city, 7% of the purchase is held on your credit card. The hold is auto-released after airport verification. Failing to depart within 20 days or skipping the airport check means the deposit is fully charged!
Until when can I claim refund on purchases? ▾
Only items bought within 90 days of departure. For in-city refund, you must depart within 20 days of the application.
